UFO Challenge 2011

As I write this out I am thinking why am I going to sign up for the UFO challenge at Patchwork Times. Maybe because everyone else was? Well I do not need to always do what everyone else does. This past year has been my UFO challenge year and I'm down to three. To me a top is no longer a UFO once it's been completed into a quilt top. I have separate categories in my data base for the next stages in the tops life and this system works for me. In going through my list, I only have three UFO's, three that have been cut out and ready to start, eight to be quilted, six at the quilter and three that needs the binding on. The ones to be quilted need backs and I am in no rush to be quilted. So I do not think I need to join and will plug along my way.

Design Wall Monday

It's Monday night and I kept thinking all day to post my progress on my Storm at Sea. I was about to wrap some gifts and said no do this first. So here it is. Still need to attach the bottom three rows together and figure out the borders. maybe this week I can finish it.

I also am posting a quilt I made for
someone that just needed a quilt. I have never met her but know her Dad. The pattern is modified from a pattern I saw in a resent magazine. The main fabric is butterflies. I got a wonderful thank you card in today's mail. Just made my day.

Design Wall Monday

I actually have something on my design wall to post. It's from a workshop given by Wendy Mathson my guild put on a few months ago. It was a different way of doing Storm at Sea. It was done with rulers. I have the top three rows sewn in together. It always amazes me how much the seam allowance take up.

Long time counting

It's been a while that I counted let alone posted to this. I fell off the wagon in counting and reporting after my birthday in October Then went to Houston where I added to my stash a bit. Not much, I was good. In trying to figure out my report, I found one that was never posted so I am not doing as bad as I thought. This past few weeks I've made a quick quilt and plus the backs for two smaller quilts tops. But hey it all counts.

Design Wall Monday

This was actually finished at my quilt retreat last week but I wanted to show it completed. I am very happy with how it turned out. With the help of my friend Kerstin, there are over 100 different greens in this quilt. I realize some might look brown but they really are all green.

It's been a few weeks since I reported in as I had a birthday and been adding to my stash and only little busting. After going to PIQF today I felt it was time to report. I did very well for going to a mega quilt show. Only bought a yard and a fat quarter and both are for projects.

Design Wall Monday

The same blocks are on the design wall but with lots of progress made. All the nine patches are made and the rows are sewn together. Need to cut the setting triangles and some two inch squares to make the borders. At this time the quilt does not any two same green blocks. That will change as I still need about 27 additional setting triangles. As I only need a 7 3/4" square to make it the triangle and two 2" squares, my friend Kerstin, who is the inspiration for this quilt, said I could come raid her stash of green fabric so I can have more variety. The first picture is an over all of how it's looking. The second picture is the bottom right hand corner that has the corner sewn together. I can not wait to raid Kerstin's stash and finish it. It's been fun to make.
